Bariatric surgery can involve a lot of preparation before you actually get to the hospital. You may find that it can get so hectic that you don't have time to feel nervous, then again you may not. As it is a major surgery and will require a lot of healing time afterwards.

After you've had the prerequstite visits with your doctors and been approved by your insurance you will set a date and begin countdown. This can be a stressful time to anyone. You may wish to sit down with your family and discuss the surgery and what changes you will need to make to your diet and lifestyle. You will need to tell them that you'll need their support, especially in the time immediately following your surgery as you will be at your weakest then.

Some doctors suggest that their patients arrange to have an in home nurse visit them after the surgery to help them with their daily activities and to take care of themselves for a few hours each day. This can be extremely helpful especially for those patients that don't have family nearby to take care of them or that have a family member that leaves for work during a part of the day.

You will also begin appointments with a nutrionist, hopefully. Your nutritionist will help you with your diet, and if they have experience working with patients that have had bariatric surgery they will tell you what to expect. This is also a good way to help you stay on your new diet after the surgery.

Lastly you will want to buy any items you feel you need for after the surgery. You may be spending a lot of time in bed or sitting on the couch so you might want to buy a couple of pillows. Plus you can get a head start on your new diet by buying some of the clear liquids that you will eat beforehand so you have them available.

Surgeries that involved the removal of sections of the stomach and intestine of patients provided the first inkling towards the potential of surgical weight loss. Post-surgery, it was noticed that in many cases patients could not regain their pre-surgery weight. This led to further studies into the matter, and surgeons came out with a conclusion that, with similar modifications to the process mentioned above, surgery could be used to deal with morbid obesity. Procedures, over the last decade, have been vastly improved for better results and lower risks.

Morbid obesity (being 100 lbs. above the ideal weight or having a Body Mass Index of 40 or more) can significantly heighten the risk of obesity-related conditions or serious diseases (also known as co-morbidities). Morbid obesity is linked to the following illnesses: Type2 Diabetes, menstrual irregularities, urinary stress incontinence, high blood pressure, depression, infertility, respiratory problems, osteoarthritis and gastro esophageal reflux. In most cases of morbid obesity, surgery can often be the best solution.

The American Society for Bariatric surgery outlines two approaches to weight loss surgery. The first involves restrictive procedures, which reduce the amount of food a person can eat at one time by creating a new, smaller stomach pouch. This gives an early feeling of fullness and thus, leads to lesser intake. The second approach is a Malabsorptive procedure. This process involves the bypass of a portion of the small intestine thereby affecting the absorption of food. Gastric bypass and Duodenal Switch are two types of malabsorption procedures. Gastric Bypass surgery makes the stomach smaller, which forces the patient to reduce the amount of calories consumed and in duodenal switch the small intestine is re-routed to effect malabsorption (here also the stomach is cut vertically).

Weight loss surgery, though beneficial, has some inherent risks and a patient for the same should be aware by gaining information from his bariatic surgeon and also his physician.

Stabilizing Your Blood Sugar

One of the best ways to help stabilize your Blood sugar is a simple process called portion control.

I myself have tendency to eat to fast. The problem with eating too fast is simple, you eat too much. I will elaborate, we all get an emotional high from eating and sometimes eat so fast causing us to over eat.

Slow Down

The next time you eat try this, chew your food and enjoy the taste. Make an effort, and try to slow down while eating. Most people are likely to overeat. There is just not time to let our stomachs get full.

Hold Off For That Second Helping

Another way to challenge yourself is this, instead of reaching for that second plate as soon as your first plate is gone, wait just 10 minutes. I will bet that by waiting it will be much easier to refuse that second helping.

Just think what 10 minutes could do for your overall health, blood sugar and weight.

Portions Size

If you can get through just a few days or a week of practicing the above mentioned tips you are on your way, now try adjusting your portions of food intake.

Instead of filling your plate up,try smaller portions. Don't be to drastic the first few days. Try reducing portion size a little bit each day. There is no need to measure or weigh your food, use your eye site. It's that simple! The best way to loose weight and keep your blood sugar down at the same time is by eating smaller portions. Give yourself time this will work. If you happen to overeat at one meal don't beat yourself up just focus more the next time you eat.

Eat Frequently

I have analyzed my eating patterns and discovered that when I wait to long to eat and find myself starving, this is the time that I will most likely overeat. The best way to not do this is simple eat more often, and eat smaller meals. If you plan on eating every 3 hours or so you will see how just an apple and a half sandwich will keep you full to the next meal. Waiting 4-6 hours between meals, you will eat more and your body will suffer for it.

It is much easier for your body breakdown smaller portions and process the sugar that to stuff yourself.

Remember being diabetic your body cannot process extra sugar like most people. So smaller meals= less sugar in your blood.

A recent study shows with no doubt the close link between viewing unhealthy food advertisements on TV and overweight children. According to many reports watching television is the most engaging activity, except sleeping, for many kids. Besides the fact watching TV is a sedentary activity, the study concluded that the consequence of averaging 22 hours of viewing a week is high exposure of children to any kind of commercials.

Because these days too many children may spend money on their own, they are being exploited by clever marketing and food companies often target their campaigns to this group. The study provides strong evidence that television is very effective in pushing kids to eat the junk foods that are advertised. As a result, kids who spend more time watching television also eat more of the low-nutrient and calorie-dense foods. Television watching time was also founded to be the strongest lead to additional consumption of sugar-sweetened beverages.

The major social concern is the health of the kids around the world is put at risk by the marketing of junk food trough television. The rising epidemic of childhood obesity in EU and the United States has been associated to diabetes and cardiovascular disease in even young children, and to an accumulation of health troubles in their later life.

Looking to burn body fat the right way and quickly?

Here are 5 basic, essential tips you must do to burn body fat now!

1) Eating Fruit And vegetables Helps To Burn Body Fat

-Low in Fat and low in calories;

-High in fibre, vitamins and minerals that satisfy the body nutrient requirements and eat less;

-Flushes out wastes and helps reduce craving for sweets;

-Maintains your energy level;

-Reduces excess body acids;

-It contains 70-80% water and by eating a sufficient amount(10 servings a day), it will keep the body hydrated properly;

-As it is rich in vitamins, it activates the enzymes in our body. Enzymes are essential for metabolic activities that take place in our body daily.

Without question fruits and vegetables supplies all the necessary nutrient requirements for our body's vitality. And importantly it provides a very fast burning source of carbohydrates, and as carbohydrates is the main source of energy, your body will burn it quickly rather than being stored and converted to body fat.

Unlike bread, rice and pasta which are high source of carbohydrates, it takes time to burn the source and thus not all the energy will not be used which subsequently converts to body fat.

Consider eating more fruits and vegetables daily to burn body fat away!

2) Drink Water

If you want to burn body fat quickly, drink a minimum of 16 glasses of purified (filtered or boiled) water a day.

Water will flush out harmful toxins, increase your metabolism and importantly make it difficult for the body fat to accumulate.

3) Start Exercising first thing in the morning

Burn body fat by committing yourself to morning workouts for at least 30 minutes to an hour.

Research have shown that by exercising in the morning, you will burn three times more body fat than working out at any other times.

Why?

All the carbohydrates stored during the day from your meals will be used up for various bodily functions that happens during you sleep. When that primary source of energy is finished, your body is forced to seek an alternative secondary supply, which is your body fat!

Thus when you wake up, your body will not have any carbohydrates as energy to use, and instead will look to burn body fat for energy.

Not only will you burn body fat during a workout session, it will continue to burn body fat at an accelerated rate after the workout. This effect is due to the intense session of cardio or aerobic workout which increases your metabolism rate for hours after the workout.

Therefore exercise first thing in the morning before breakfast to maximise the opportunity to burn body fat.

4) Do Light Resistance training before An Aerobic Or Cardio Workout

During the first 20 minutes of any exercise the body will not burn body fat, instead your body will burn glycogen (a source of energy for the muscles)

Basically, you have to do a minimum of 20 minutes worth of light resistance training or weight lifting.

This will raise the metabolism rate up to between 100-200%, and you will burn body fat quickly.

5) Eat Breakfast

Having breakfast is a great way to boost your metabolism.

By skipping breakfast, your metabolism will run slower which mean the body will not burn body fat.

Your body needs energy, and breakfast provides that source which allows your body to burn body fat!

Not only that, breakfast helps to stop those cravings later in the day, and maintain your energy level whilst lowering stress levels.

The above five essential tips are a great start to plan for a 'Burn Body Fat' program.

With the right plan to stay focused, and by taking action, you will burn body fat and drop your pant sizes!

Yes and no. Moderate calorie restriction helps in controlling and getting rid of fat to a certain extent.

In fact the so called low carbohydrate diets are low calorie diets.

Research proves that the weight loss in these weight loss programs is on account of calorie restriction and not due to the virtues of a low carbohydrate-high protein diet.

But the real fact about these diets is… calorie restriction is bad for health.

Firstly, these diet plans induce ketosis which according to many experts is bad for health.

Secondly, calorie restriction deprives the vital organs like lever, thyroid and adrenals etc. of required nutrition.

What this means in effect is, the very organs which are supposed to burn fat and keep you lean and healthy are making you sick because of wrong diet!

The reason? Well, very simple…

Say for example, you eat 1200 calories of fruit daily,-which is very good for the fat burning and filtering organs in your body. Now, if you suddenly you reduce it by 500 calories… what is the result? deprivation.

Now let's take another scenario… you are regularly eating 1500 calories of fast food(processed foods) and you bring it down by 500… result? great!

These junk foods were causing damage to your organs and a shift in your diet pattern wiill increase the efficiency of your body's fat burning organs.

So, you will see that it's not calorie restriction alone that was responsible for weight loss in the above example, the restriction of unwanted processed foods in your diet has a more profound effect on your health and weight loss goals.
